Vibration control of an automotive engine using active mounts
Authors
Abstract:
In this research, vibration control of national engine (EF7) using active mounts is studied for two different mounting layouts. The first layout is based on the current engine mounting of national engine (system of three passive mounts), but the hydraulic mount is substituted by an active mount. The other mounting layout contains 4 mounts, 2 of which are active ones and the others are passive mounts. In order to simulate the dynamic behavior of the engine, a 6-degree-of-freedom, one-way-coupled model is hired. In addition, a proper dynamic model for active mount with electromagnetic actuator is chosen. In order to reduce transmitted force to the chassis through the mounting system, a feed-forward adaptive control method, FXLMS (Filtered-x Least Mean Squares) is employed which is one of the widely used methods in cancellation of acoustical and vibrational noises. Considering the characteristics of the transmitted force to the chassis, this method is used in a specific algorithm called narrow-band algorithm to cancel dominant harmonic frequency of the unwanted vibrations of the engine.

Abstract Inthispaper,anewsemi-activemagnetorheological(MR)enginemountinhalfcarmodelisproposed for improving ride comfort. Such a model uses a dynamic sliding mode controller. It operates as a controller system for controlling the magnetic field strength of the engine mount coil. Controlling the magnetic field strength leads to change the magnetorheological liquid properties and thereby the gene...
full text13 Automotive Applications of Active Vibration Control 1
In recent years, commercial demand for comfortable and quiet vehicles has encouraged the industrial development of methods to accommodate a balance of performance, efficiency, and comfort levels in new automotive year models. Particularly, the noise, vibration and harshness characteristics of cars and trucks are becoming increasingly important (see, e.g., (Buchholz, 2000), (Capitani et al., 200...
full textCombination of map-based and adaptive feedforward control algorithms for active engine mounts
Active engine mounts significantly contribute to ensure the comfort in vehicles with emission-reducing engine technologies, e.g., cylinder-on-demand (COD), downsizing or turbochargers. To control active engine mounts, either adaptive or non-adaptive feedforward control is commonly employed. Since both approaches have previously been treated separately, this study proposes methods to connect the...

In the paper, the design of a linear motor as an actuator in vehicle active suspension systems will be presented. The attention is focused on several interesting design aspects of the non-traditional actuator (linear synchronous permanent magnet motor with electronic commutation) controlled to obtain a variable mechanical force for a car damper. The main advantage of such a solution is the poss...

full textSynthesis for Idle Speed Control of an Automotive Engine
The problem of maintaining the crankshaft speed of an automotive engine within a given set interval (idle speed control), is formalized as a constrained control problem using a hybrid model of the engine. The control problem is difficult because the system has delays and a large number of constraints. The approach for the synthesis of a controller for this system is based on the theory develope...
